The recently launched Moto Razr is making waves in the smartphone industry since its unveiling a few hours ago. Compared to all the exiting folding concept phones, the Razr seems to be the most practical design that can stand the test of time. And it also appears to be practically similar to a flip phone from the past. Hence, it only makes sense for a company like Xiaomi to follow the idea and bring out a folding phone similar to the new Razr.
A fresh report from Tiger Mobiles suggests that Xiaomi is also working on a concept device with a folding display that appears to be quite similar to the recently launched Moto Razr. In fact, the new concept has identical form factor elements to the Moto Razr but it could have a slightly bigger screen real estate. The renders show flip-phone design with a small display on the outside and a dual-camera at the back – not quite as smart as the new Razr but it has some benefits.
The first is the absence of any thick chin like on the Moto Razr. In fact, the phone has extremely slim bezels all around and there’s only a slightly thick forehead. The forehead has a set of cameras, sensors and earpiece. The hinge is visible from the sides but it’s comparatively thinner than the one on the Moto Razr.
As for the thickness, the concept shows the moderate thickness and that creates doubt in the mind with regards to the battery capacity and chipset. However, it’s still in the concept stage and that means it could take some time to formulate. At the back, there’s a dual-camera setup but it’s stacked in the lower half of the phone.
The display on the outside is comparatively smaller than the one on the new Razr but it will be big enough to show time, notifications, alarms and some basic information.
Now, this is just a patent and chances are that Xiaomi may never come up with the phone in reality. In fact, Xiaomi is itself working on a folding phone concept that allows for dual folds. Xiaomi’s concept allows the user to fold out the extra screen from both sides to get a tablet-like experience.
