Xiaomi has been at its feet when it comes to delivering updates for its flagship models. The Redmi K20 Pro was among the first few phones in 2019 to get the Android 10 update while the Redmi K20 and Poco F1 got it soon after. For rest of Xiaomi’s devices, it was expected that Xiaomi might roll out the Android 10 update later in 2020. However, users of Xiaomi’s Android One devices have been left waiting for the Android 10 update even though Xiaomi promised early updates for the phones. Xiaomi now has answers.
In an official post on Twitter, Xiaomi India has confirmed that the Mi A3, which is the company’s latest Android One device, is getting the Android 10 update soon. How soon? Xiaomi says that the Mi A3 is scheduled to get the Android 10 update starting mid-February. There’s no mention of whether the devices will start getting it in batches or all the devices will get it at once. That said, the new update is coming soon and those who have been waiting for it since ages will finally get to see the new Android soon.
The Android 10 update promises a couple of new features, mostly with regards to security and privacy. Android 10 offers users more options when it comes to data privacy as well as location settings. Hence, users will have more control over what apps use what data and how much of it is available to the servers. Android 10 also brings in some big UI changes, mostly in the form of a new system-wide Dark Mode as well as a new gesture navigation system.
On the Mi A3, Android 10 will benefit in terms of performance (at least theoretically). The new dark mode on the Mi A3’s AMOLED display will help with power conservation whereas the new gestures could help with ease-of-use while navigating around the UI.
The Mi A3 is currently Xiaomi’s only model in the Android One lineup. Relying on a Snapdragon 665 chipset, the Mi A3 offers a stock Android UI that feels close to what you see on a Google Pixel device. Xiaomi also offers a premium glass build with a high-resolution 48-megapixel triple camera setup at the back. The Mi A3 starts at Rs 12,999 in India.
